What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is the surgical procedure which changes the shape and or size of the nose, making it smaller or larger, smoothing out bumps, or changing the angle or the tip. Dr. Yaghoubian usually performs rhinoplasties as a cosmetic procedure to enhance the look of the nose in relation to the rest of the face, but she also performs them to fix a broken nose or to correct breathing problems or birth defects.

What is Involved in a Rhinoplasty Consult and Procedure?

At your pre-surgical appointment, Dr. Yaghoubian consults with you to determine your goals for the procedure and asks what changes you’d like to see. She evaluates your nose and your facial structure and tells you if your goals are realistic.

After you’ve been given anesthesia, Dr. Yaghoubian performs the surgery. She may make incisions inside your nose and sometimes along the bottom of it, to change the shape of the bone and cartilage.

When the procedure is finished, she places a splint on your nose which you’ll wear for about a week. You’ll have some bruising and swelling, but most of the swelling improves in just a few days. Any residual swelling disappears over time. Within a couple of weeks, you may have a good idea of the way your nose is going to look when it’s completely healed.

How Long Does it Take to Recover from Rhinoplasty?

You can resume your regular social life within two to three weeks without signs that you’ve had the surgery–other than a more attractive nose.

Dr. Yaghoubian puts a splint on your nose after the surgery is completed. She asks that you get lots of rest the first week when your splint is in place. And it’s best to avoid active exercise for up to six weeks.
